Lee has been making denim jeans in America since 1889, when production first began in Salina, Kansas. The brand specializes in casual wear and work wear, maintaining a heritage that spans more than a century. Today Lee operates as part of Kontoor Brands, following the 2019 spin-off from VF Corporation's Jeanswear Division. The company's headquarters moved to Greensboro, North Carolina that same year, after previously being based in Merriam, Kansas. Lee functions as an international retailer and manufacturer, employing over 400 people across the United States. In Australasia, Pacific Brands has owned the Lee brand since acquiring it from Yakka in 2007, extending the label's reach across that region.
